New construction doesn't automatically mean everything was done correctly. We got called out on a diagnostic for a mini split system that wasn't running right - and once we opened things up, it didn't take long to find out why.
The original installers left behind a failed flair fitting on the refrigerant line. It was the wrong size, and it caused a refrigerant leak that was quietly robbing the system of its ability to cool and heat properly. This is the kind of thing that gets missed when corners are cut during installation - and it's exactly why a thorough diagnostic matters. We replaced it with a properly sized flair fitting and got the refrigerant circuit sealed up the way it should have been from day one.
That wasn't the only issue either. We worked through several other installation problems before we were confident the system was operating the way the manufacturer intended. On a multi-zone mini split setup like this, every connection and every component in that outdoor unit has to be right. One bad fitting, one miswired connection - and the whole system suffers.
What this homeowner ended up with was a system that finally works. Not just running - actually working. Proper refrigerant charge, correct fittings, everything verified. That's the difference between a quick patch job and actually fixing the problem.
We take this stuff seriously whether it's a brand new install or a repair call like this one. Details matter in HVAC. Getting it right the first time - or in this case, going back and doing it right - makes all the difference for the long-term performance and reliability of the system.
